  • Demee Manchester, CEO, RN

    Demee graduated with a bachelor’s in nursing from New Brunswick University of Fredericton in 2015. After graduation she started her career as a nurse in the step-down intensive care unit/ transplant post op unit, providing care to transplant and high acuity patients. Demee then moved to Maine and started her next chapter as a care manager and used this opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in healthcare quality and found a passion for quality improvement. Demee has a passion for ensuring all people have access to high quality healthcare regardless of their socioeconomic status.   

  • Mariah Curtis, COO, RN

    Mariah has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Maine at Machias, an Associates of Science in Emergency Medicine from Eastern Maine Community College and an Associates of Science in Nursing from Beal College. Mariah has always been interested in healthcare, starting off as a CNA after high school. She completed a pre-med undergraduate degree with plans of pursuing further studies in medicine.  After gaining experience as an EMT, she was drawn into nursing. While working as an emergency department nurse she felt she had a limited ability to impact the health and wellness of our community. Mariah then transitioned into outpatient care and climbed the ladder from RN Care Manager to COO. She is passionate about providing accessible, patient centered care. Mariah also has a passion for disease prevention, and management to reduce emergency department utilization and hospitalizations.  

  • Nicholas MacDonald, CFO, MBA, FPQP

    Nicholas has a Master of Business in Finance and Information Systems and is certified as a Finacial Paraplanner Qualified Professional. He has extensive experience in fiscal management, education, and community engagement. Before his position at HFHC, his experience at Machias Savings Bank equipped him with extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, reporting and operational excellence. Nicholas holds teaching roles at the University of Maine at Machias and Washington County Community College, both furthering his ability to communicate complex financial concepts and foster collaboration. He has a passion for accessible and affordable healthcare for all. He understands the financial challenges many people face when accessing healthcare and is dedicated to finding solutions to these issues.   

  • Phil Elkin, MD, MPH

    Medical Director 

    Dr. Elkin attended Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree and a Master's in Public Health. He spent most of his professional career as a Family Practitioner in Blue Hill Maine. Dr. Elkin has helped to start a Family Medicine physician training program in Lesotho, Africa. Dr. Elkin also works one month a year in Belize instructing medical students. He loves interacting with patients and staff and has a passion for providing quality care for everyone without financial barriers.
